Primary Purpose:

Implements the daily structure required for the Ohana House program as indicated by the Ohana Project Supervisor. Provides sufficient supervision to assure appropriate care to Ohana House clients. Serves as a caring and understanding role model for clients.

 

 

Essential Duties:

  • Ensures that available admission packets and hygiene bags are prepared and maintained.
  • Ensures that all rooms are properly cleaned and prepared for incoming clients as clients are discharged or otherwise exited from the program.
  • Acts clearly and with prudence in emergency situations to ensure that any endangered party receives available services. Reports all incidents immediately to the Ohana Project Supervisor and/or 911, if necessary.
  • Assists and supports clients in maintaining cooperative and effective relationships with their service providers.
  • Assists clients in the development of life skills such as resolving interpersonal conflicts in their environment, maintaining housing, developing work skills, safety skills, social skills, and teaching hygiene and self-care.
  • Participates in the implementation of client service plans as needed.
  • Promotes recovery through role modeling and sharing experiences, and by providing hope, encouragement and connection to community.
  • Reinforces appropriate behavior to clients, and redirects undesired behavior when applicable.
  • Conducts daily room inspections. Ensures the whereabouts of all clients at the end of the shift.
  • Coordinates and implements a schedule for client meals.         Monitors the household food to ensure its equal distribution among clients.
  • Assists with the purchase of household food and ensures that all clients are provided with at least one healthy meal per day.
  • Plans and provides social, recreational, educational, and/or vocational activities that seek to expand the clients' interests (ie on-site cooking classes).
  • Facilitates weekly Ohana House meetings. Records the minutes of the meetings and keeps them in proper order.
  • Advocates on behalf of clients to ensure equity of treatment.
  • Keeps records of all client cases, and is responsible for ensuring that the records are entered into the clinic computer data-base, and for safeguarding clients' confidentiality and other rights.
  • Works as part of the Ohana Project team in providing a coordinated system of care to the clients at the Ohana House.

 

Other Duties:

         Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate actions beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required

 

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

 

Skills/Knowledge:

         Good crisis intervention / de-escalation skills.

         Ability to relate effectively to difficult clients, including mentally ill, chemically dependent, and other homeless individuals.

         Ability to work independently in an effective manner.

         Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

         Ability to work as a team player.

         Ability to operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license required.

         Must provide proof of automobile insurance and clean drivers abstract.

 

 

Education:

         High School Diploma or GED required

 

Experience:

         One or more years of experience working in a residential program required

         Training in substance abuse / dual diagnosis preferred
